*BEST OF DTB #233* My recent dialogue with "Living Waters" Protestant ministry

Recently, I wrote the Protestant ministry "Living Waters" and requested the opportunity to debate someone on the multiple, demonstrable errors in their video alleging the worship of Mary by Catholics.

The woman who responded, Liz Ebert, forwarded me information on how to request a radio interview then responded with some allegations of her own and a truck load of attachments and cut and paste polemics.

Here, in part, is what she said;

In answer to your comments, there are quite a few major differences also between Roman Catholic doctrine (that is, teaching) and Protestant doctrine. Many Roman Catholics, with whom I've spoken, will not say that they are "born again",  which is clearly a Biblical term (John 3:3 & 7,1 Peter 1:23).
 Other major differences include an emphasis on the equality of the Scriptures and tradition, the Apocrypha, transubstantiation, praying to saints, Mariology, having to confess to priests, penance, purgatory, the sacraments, and more. None of the before mentioned teachings are in any way Biblical.
Obviously, I wasn't going to let these statements go unanswered, so I replied (my previous typographical errors corrected);

 Dear Liz,
  I appreciate your response but, frankly, a dump truck load of cut and paste propaganda is not what I was looking for. The hosts said a number of demonstrably false things and I was seeking the opportunity to set the record straight.
You, also, make a number of provably false assertions here that I simply must address. First, yes "Born Again" is a term used in the Bible but it, in the same chapter (John 3) it is expanded to being born of water and spirit. It refers to Baptism. The Protestant notion of being "Born Again" is an invention of the 1970s that appears nowhere Biblically or historically. The early church writings prove that John 3:5 was understood as Baptism. Baptism saves us by initiating us into Christ's Church.
The Bible proves this as well.
1 Peter 3:21
Whereunto baptism being of the like form, now saveth you also: not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the examination of a good conscience towards God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Equality of the Scriptures and Sacred Tradition is proven by 2 Thessalonians 2:14 which says we must obey BOTH Oral and written teachings from the Church.
What you call the Apocrypha are, in fact, Dueterocanonical books that belonged to the canon of Scripture that Jesus and the Disciples quoted from. Transubstantiation is a Biblical fact, clearly shown in John 6, 1 Corinthians 10 and 1 Corinthians 11. If you think confession to a Priest is unbiblical, you have obviously never read the first 5 books of the Bible. However, John 20:23 proves it. In Matthew 3, John the Baptist demands of the Pharisees that they produce fruit as proof of repentance, lest they be cut down and thrown in the fire. That proves Penance. Luke 12 and 1 Corinthians 3:15 prove purgatory. That the Angel's and Saints hear are prayers and take them to God is proven in Revelation Chapters 5 and 8 and all of the Doctrines we believe concerning Mary are proven in Luke 1 and 2, Matthew and Revelation 11:19-12:17 including the fact that she was Immaculately conceived, had no other children, is the Ark of the Covenant, is the Queen of Heaven, and is the mother of God and all Christians (real ones, anyway).
All 7 Sacraments are also, easily proven from Scripture. Obviously, you thought you were speaking to a fool.
Now, let's get back to my original point. Your hosts made many contentions about the so-called "worship" of Mary. Perhaps they don't understand that worship requires an assent to Divinity. No Catholic attributes any Divine characteristics to Mary. If you did not recognize Jesus as Divine, it could not be said that you worship Him.
Perhaps, you are the one I should debate. I contend that your beliefs are not those taught by Christ or the Apostles but a series of man made notions invented centuries later. Despite your claims, I say that it is the beliefs you have espoused, not mine, that fail the test of Biblical scrutiny.
If you would be interested in debating these things with me, let me know.
You will be treated fairly, in a moderated debate. When you speak, my mic will be muted to avoid talk over.
Tell your show hosts to prep you well. I want their best shot. They are blind guides leading the blind. I would be only too happy to prove it.
John

I would encourage Deeper Truth Blog fans to email her at lebert@livingwaters.com, reference this article and tell her that you would be very pleased to hear such a series of debates.

Thank you,
John
